The Alpena Horsemen’s club has annual trail rides during the Spring and Fall in Michigan.  Club members are always ready to help with picket lines, questions or just riding with a young horse.  The year 2010 we are having more rides.  This is a great opportunity to ride, laugh, and enjoy the access to Michigan beauty from horseback.  The pace of the ride can be slow and relaxed or long for the more adventurous riders.  The Alpena Horsemen’s Club is always safety conscious, so knowing your horses abilities beforehand is a plus.  Our pot luck dinners are on Sat. nights you can not believe the food that is cooked in camp. There will be lots of time to sing songs, take pictures, show off pictures of your horses or tell a horse story by the campfire.  The club has a vast assortment of breeds and all are welcome.  This club is family oriented and dog friendly.  Some of the members do take the dogs on the trails.  The only requirement to be able to participate in the trail rides is a membership in the club.

SEARCH AND RESCUE

Why would I want to join the AlpenaCounty Horsemen's Club.  You have to be a member to be in the Search and Rescue.  One more way to use our horses.

FAQ

What size does the horse have to be?  Your horse can be any size

What if my horse is a trail or show horse.  Can it still do Search and Rescue?
It does not matter what kind of horse you have.

What if I only ride English?  The type of saddle doesn't matter.

How old does the horse have to be to do Search and Rescue?  The horse has to be controllable.

How much does it cost?  You only have to be a member of the Alpena Horsemen's Club.

What if I don't know what to do on a search?  Every search is different so you would follow the leader provided by the Horsemen's Club.

Before you can do a Search and Rescue you have to be trained.  We are a volunteer group for the Alpena County Sheriff Department, City Police and the State Police.  Because of the search patterns we have to take orders from the head of the committee (either the head of the Search and Rescue Committee or which ever law enforcement agency is in charge.)
